Celebrate

Thanks for visiting from the Card a day Blog!

I made this card for my niece who is graduating this year, and I chose it for my post in the “Teen” theme.

The colors for my card are based on the ones she chose for her prom dress… white, pink and blue. Here is a picture of her in her Prom Dress!

She designed her dress with my sister, and the picture does not do credit to the work they did on it. My sister hand beaded a heart that covers the bodice… beautiful! There is also beading along the waistline.  To follow this inspiration in my card, I chose a white cardstock, embossed it with “garden scroll”, and sprayed it with Perfect Pearls. I made a pearl tag, using double stick tape and pink glass beads I bought at the dollar store. Note to self - sookwang would have worked better, but I was in a rush and ended up having to reinforce the tape with watered down glue.  The “Celebrate” embellishment was actually a tag that I cut down, I think the rhinestones just add enough bling Smile. Sorry that the picture doesn’t show up as good as the card looks in person… sigh. I’m going to have to make a photo box to help me do better card pictures for my blog!!!

Canada - mon pays…mon coeur

Today I made a card for the Card a Day Blog, with the theme, Country’s Birthday. I did a simple printed card, embellishing it slightly with a clear glaze pen.  I wanted to highlight the Canadian maple leaf, and not detract too much from my sentiment on the front. For those who don’t speak French, it is:

Canada - my country….my heart

I chose this when I was remembering one of my favorite French songs from school, “Mon Pays” by Gilles Vigneault. It kind of sums up for me what it is to be Canadian… you can access the translated English lyrics here, or listen to the song here.

Made with Sihouette Studio (just selected the images I wanted and digitally colored them, then printed only).

Finished card size:

  • 1/4 fold (4.25 x 5.5 inches)

Images:

  • Moose frame by Joel Pilcher (design id #3611) (I attached a rectangle below it to frame the sentiment)
  • Flag Canada by Silhouette (design id #1625)

Font used:

  • Bleedbob BTN

Hope you like it! Birthday celebrations are a great time to sing those songs you love Smile

Almost done!

Just a quick update…. the front yard is almost done… all that is left is to purchase approximately 7 packages of annuals for fill in, and to spread the bark mulch. So by this weekend, my front yard will be done! Only one month behind.

I’ll try to take this angle of picture for next years comparison.  So far so good though!

I will have to draw out what plants and perennials I’ve planted, and where, so I can keep the record of how things do. I am quite pleased with how I see it turning out though.  I just realized that I thought I had bought blue carpet juniper, but the one I actually got is more shrub like (spread is 3 ft high by 5 ft wide), so I can see those coming out in about 10 years…. oh well. Gardening to me is always a work in progress Smile

The lawn is gone!

I am so excited! The front lawn is finally gone, as of this morning! Lots left to do, but I thought I’d celebrate by showing off some pictures of the front garden (warning, it is still a work in progress).

Once I get all the plants in the ground, and the bark mulch in place, I will do another update.  I can not tell you how relieved I am to have that lawn as history!

You are Awesome!

Welcome to a new month and a new theme at the Card a Day Blog!! Friendship! Here is the card I came up with!
DSC02168
I used my silhouette and chose these files:
'you are seriously awesome' card by Loni Stevens
border grass with grass clump by Samantha Walker
Benjamin Bunny by Beatrix Potter
I had to adjust the card so that it would make a 3”x5” card front.  I added a rectangle, set it to no cut, and colored it the same color as the grass border (also set to no cut, and colored). The Benjamin Bunny file was already a print and cut (beautiful, eh?!), so I just placed it in the top rectangle of the card file and set it to no cut… Here is what my screen looked like:

So, it really was a super simple card to make once I had the graphics picked. I love print and cuts! Just gives enough texture and layers to make a neat card that isn’t just printed. My printer is almost out of ink (Yikes!), but I’m glad the way the green printed anyways… looks distressed and fits in with the way the texture is on the bunny’s hat, and almost looks like the grass blended downwards. I was really crossing my fingers, as I didn’t have time to get some ink this morning before work!!!
I used a fern pattern embossing folder for the card base (front side only), and a contrasting paper that co-ordinated with it to glue the “print & cut” onto.
I plan to give this to my dog’s God Mother who looks after him when I have to be away from home… lucky dog, she’s taking him out canoeing the next time she takes him for his sleepover!
You’ve got to love friends like that- they are awesome!
